I believe everyone whose coming down on Victoria is really reacting without truly listening to what she is saying, and perhaps she is not communicating well what she is truly attempting to say.
What I believe she is attempting to say is: When we obey God it is for our own benefit that we do so, because then all things will work out for our good.
This is not to say that Church (which is really viewed wrong in the Body of Christ anyway) is about us because it truly is not. However, our obedience does not benefit God directly, because He does not need our obedience to be who He is. We need what He has, and in order to obtain what He has He has commanded us to be obedient as referenced in Isaiah 1:19-20:
If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
When we live and do the things the Lord has required of us, it benefits us because we obtain the rewards of them; not God.
Now as far as being happy is concerned. I don’t believe God cares about you being happy really. Simply because happiness happens only when good things happen, or someone is only happy when they cause evil to others. Therefore, happiness is not what the Lord is about. Joy is where the Lord truly lives.
Joy will take you though when happiness ceases. Happiness will fail you with the death of a loved one, when someone doesn’t do what you want them to, or when circumstances and situations arise contrary to you. However, joy will take you through all of these.
Understand that I do not defend the Olsteen’s ministry, which in my opinion is bubblegum ministry at it’s finest. However, in this instance only, I believe many have blown her statements out of proportion.
I further believe, we should do good to honor God, but for our benefit albeit, we should do those good deeds in private, and not promote those good deeds on Facebook and social media (ref:Matthew 6:2):
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Having said all this, your obedience does benefit God in that God has a clean vessel in which He can use to promote His Kingdom, but the rewards of obedience benefit you entirely.
Then I Can Be Wrong.
That’s my two cents.
